For Spleen qi and Heart blood deficiency. This presents with palpitations, forgetfulness, insomnia, dream-disturbed sleep, withdrawal, anxiety, phobias, feverishness, reduced appetite and a pale complexion. The tongue is pale with a thin, white coating, the pulse is thin and frail.
Chronic bleeding conditions may also be part of the presentation. Women may experience early periods with copious, pale blood or prolonged, almost continuous periods with little flow.
The original preparation calls for the ingredients to be ground to a powder and taken in 12g doses as a draft. Today most practitioners use the decoction method with the dosages in parentheses.
