Indication

For unrelieved exterior heat invading the interior and affecting the large intestine. Used to treat dysenteric diarrhea characterized by foul-smelling stool and a burning sensation at the anus, where it presents with fever, sweating, thirst, a feeling of irritability and heat in the chest and epigastrium, possible wheezing. Tongue is red with yellow coating. Pulse is rapid.

Contraindication

1. Dysenteric disorders without fever or with a slow, submerged pulse.
