Action / Indication

1. Drains heat from the Lungs, stops coughs, and calms wheezing: for cough and wheezing due to Lung heat.
2. Promotes urination and reduces edema: used in disorders where Lung heat obstructs the downward movement of Lung qi, preventing water from moving and cutting off perspiration. This manifests as floating edema, facial edema, swelling of the extremities, fever and thirst, urinary difficulty, and a floating pulse.
3. Also recently used for hyptertension. With Scutellariae Radix (huang qin), Cassiae Semen (jue ming zl), and Prunellae Spica (xia ku cao) for hypertension due to ascendant Liver yang.

1. Sang Bai Pi is often used with Chuan Bei Mu and Ban Xia to address coughs with Phlegm-Heat.
2. Sang Bai Pi is one of the many parts of the Mulberry Tree that is used in Chinese Medicine.
