Action / Indication

1. Extinguishes wind and stops tremors and convulsions: for Liver wind and phlegm patterns with such symptoms as spasms, acute or chronic childhood convulsions, tetany, opisthotonos, tics, muscular tetany, and seizures. This is one of the more effective wind-extinguishing substances.
2. Tracks down wind, unblocks the collaterals, and stops pain: for stubborn headaches (including migraines) and painful obstruction.
3. Attacks and resolves fire toxicity and dissipates nodules: used topically for toxic sores, swellings, and scrofula in accordance with the maxim "Use toxin to attack toxin."

Contraindication

Pregnancy, and internal wind from blood deficiency. Do not overdose. Significant overdose (30-60g) could have serious side-effects and possible fatality.

Dosages

2-5g, decocted, or 0.9-1.5g if only tail is used. Use 0.5-1g powdered. For chronic convulsions in children under the age of 2, use 0.06-0.09g.

1. Quan Xie is toxic but it is still used today in the form of Qian Zheng San to treat Wind-strike
2. The name Quan Xie means "complete scorpion", it is so because the tail of the scorpion is the most important part of the animal.
