Action / Indication

1. Calms and curbs the Liver yang while also clearing and draining Liver fire: for either ascendant Liver yang or Liver fire that leads to dizziness, vertigo, irritability and restlessness, and insomnia; often used for hypertension with ascendant Liver yang. Can be used as a stand-alone herb either as a decoction or an infusion taken as a tea.
2. Clears heat and promotes urination: for edema and urinary difficulty with heat. This effect is quite strong and it can be used as a stand-alone herb for this purpose.
3. Nourishes the Heart and calms the Spirit: for insomnia, palpitations, generalized nervous conditions, and post-concussion syndromes.
