Action / Indication

1. Clears heat and dries dampness: primarily for damp-heat in the lower burner leading to jaundice, dysenteric disorder, vaginal discharge, and sores.
2. Disperses wind, kills parasites, and stops itching: for damp toxin skin lesions or infestations with chronic itching, seepage, and bleeding. Also for genital itching and vaginal discharge. Used both internally and topically.
3. Clears heat and promotes urination: for such disorders as damp-heat in the Small Intestine, painful urinary dribbling, and hot edema.

Contraindication

Deficiency cold of the Spleen or Stomach. Incompatible with Li Lu.

Dosages

3-9g, decocted. 30g, maximum. Capsules or tablets are preffered, because the herb is so bitter, the taste may induce vomiting. Use topically as an external wash. Do not overdose; adverse reactions may ensue, and emetic methods are recommended initially.
