Action / Indication

1. Clears heat, resolves fire toxicity, expels wind, and dries dampness: for wind-heat or damp-heat sores, carbuncles, and rashes. These are characterized by much pus or leaking of a yellow fluid, moist skin, and pruritus. Also used (only in combination) for damp-heat jaundice or painful obstruction.
2. Clears damp-heat, stops itching: for vaginal pruritis with discharge.

Contraindication

Exercise caution with patients who have compromised liver function or known hypersensitivity to this herb, as allergic reactions have been reported.

1. Bai Xian Pi is one of the premier herbs used externally as a wash to clear damp-heat on the skin. Often combined with Huang Bai, Ku Shen, and Di Fu Zi for this purpose.
2. Vaginitis and vaginal discharge is one of the most common indications for this herb. Commonly taken internally and externally.
