Contraindicated during pregnancy. Use caution for bleeding disorders (excessive menstruation, blood in the urine, vomiting blood). Incompatible with Li Lu. Do not use concurrently with Digoxin. Dan Shen exaggerates the effects of Anticoagulant and Antiplatelet drugs, therefore use extreme caution if taking these pharmaceuticals. Allergic reactions to this herb have been reported. Large dose may provoke headache.
6-15g. 30g maximum. For vasculitis, up to 60g may be prescribed. Dry-fry to make warming. Wine-fry to best disperse blood stasis. For blood stasis with Liver blood deficiency, fry in turtle blood. Char to stop bleeding (use as a less expensive substitute for San Qi) .
