Action / Indication

1. Drains damp-heat from the Liver and Gallbladder channels: for damp-heat in the upper part of the Gallbladder channel with such symptoms as red, swollen, sore throat and eyes, swollen and painful ears, or sudden deafness. Also for damp-heat in the Liver or Gallbladder channels (especially the lower parts) with such symptoms as jaundice, pain, swelling, or dampness in the genital area, or foul-smelling vaginal discharge and itching.
2. Drains and pacifies excessive Liver fire: for Liver fire blazing upward with headache or red eyes. Also for Liver wind-heat with fever, spasms, convulsions, or flank pain.

Contraindication

Contraindicated with diarrhea from Spleen/Stomach deficiency cold, and with qi and blood deficiency. Warning=> may have a sedative effect, causing drowsiness. Take before meals, unless patient complains of sensitive stomach, in which case, take with food. Overdose may cause flushing with headache and dizziness.

Dosages

3-9g, decocted, or in pills or powders. 15g, maximum. Use topically as a powder.
