Action / Indication

1. Restrains leakage of blood and stops bleeding: mainly for bleeding from the Lungs and Stomach, which includes vomiting blood, coughing of blood, and nosebleed. Also for bleeding associated with traumatic injury, usually applied locally.
2. Reduces swelling and generates flesh: applied topically for sores, ulcers, and chapped skin. It can be used whether or not the sore has ulcerated, as it reduces the swelling of sores and helps accelerate the healing of ulcers. Especially useful for chronic, nonhealing ulcers.

Contraindication

Externally contracted diseases with coughing of blood, early stages of Lung abscess, and heat excess in the Lungs and Stomach with perforated gastric or duodenal ulcers. Incompatible with wu tou and fu zi.

3-15g, or 1.5-3g powdered.

Tom's Comment

1. Bai Ji is a very popular choice for LU and ST bleeding. Particularly Upper GI bleeding such as Stomach Ulcers.
2. Bai Ji as an external application is excellent for facilitating the resolution of sores and ulcers.
3. Although historically contraindicated, it is often times used with Hai Piao Xiao for GI ulcers.
